Tensions erupted after Brighton & Hove Albion secured a controversial 1–0 victory over Sunderland AFC at the Stadium of Light, with Sunderland manager Régis Le Bris launching a furious attack on the visiting fans in his post-match interview.
The only goal of the match came in the 58th minute when Yankuba Minteh found the back of the net to give Brighton a crucial away win. While the result itself was a painful blow for Sunderland supporters, the real controversy began after the final whistle when Le Bris addressed what he described as a “disgraceful chant” from the Brighton end.

Le Bris also called on the English Premier League authorities to investigate the incident, insisting that football must maintain standards when it comes to fan conduct.
“Support your club, sing, celebrate — that is football culture,” he continued. “But what happened today is something the league must address. If this continues, it damages the respect between clubs.”
Despite the defeat, Sunderland players reportedly backed their manager’s stance in the dressing room, believing the chant crossed the boundary of acceptable rivalry.
Brighton, meanwhile, have not officially responded to the accusations, with the club instead focusing on the importance of the victory as they continue their push in the league standings.
