Brentford manager Keith Andrews has launched a furious attack on Leeds United supporters after his side’s tense 0–0 draw against Leeds at Elland Road, insisting a controversial chant from the home crowd disrupted the game and must be investigated by the Premier League.
The match itself ended without goals, but the aftermath quickly turned into controversy as Andrews used his post-match interview to criticize the atmosphere created by Leeds fans during key moments of the match.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the final whistle, the Brentford boss did not hide his frustration.
“What was that chant? Honestly, I’ve never heard something so nonchalant in a football stadium,” Andrews said. “If this continues, no club will ever respect Leeds United again. The Premier League must do something about it.”
According to Andrews, the chant from the Leeds supporters began during a crucial spell of the match and visibly affected his players’ concentration, preventing Brentford from executing their tactical plan.
“We were controlling the match and trying to push for the winner,” he explained. “But suddenly the stadium erupted with that chant. It changed the rhythm of the game completely. These things matter at this level.”
Despite the stalemate on the scoreboard, the Brentford manager believes his side deserved more from the contest.
“We came here to win,” he added. “We created the better structure and we were ready to finish the job. But football becomes difficult when outside noise crosses the line.”
The draw leaves both teams with a point, but the controversy surrounding the supporters’ behavior quickly became the major talking point after the match.
Leeds United have not yet responded to Andrews’ remarks, and the Premier League is also yet to comment on whether any investigation will take place.
However, the Brentford manager made it clear he expects action.
“If the league wants respect between clubs, they have to protect the integrity of the game,” Andrews said. “Today it was us. Tomorrow it could be someone else.”
