Alabama’s Kelly Curry Named to A STEP UP Assistant Coach Hall of Fame Class of 2025

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Alabama women’s basketball assistant coach Kelly Curry has been named to the A STEP UP Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame Class of 2025, the organization announced Wednesday. Curry finished his 12th year at The Capstone following the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, and 27th overall in the coaching profession.
Curry will be inducted alongside Orlando Antigua (Illinois), Fred Applin (UNC Greensboro), Shannon LeBeauf (UCLA), Ernie Nestor (Wake Forest), Jerry Norman (UCLA), Steve Roccaforte (Texas A&M) and Kurtis Townsend (Kansas). The eight honorees will be inducted to the hall of fame on Wednesday, May 21, in Charlotte, N.C., at Queens University.

Has spent the last 12 seasons as an assistant coach at Alabama, helping lead the Crimson Tide to three consecutive NCAA Tournaments and four such showings across the last five years
Helped Alabama to six 20-or more wins seasons, including a 24-9 record during the 2024-25 season
Helped lead UA to a 10-6 record during SEC play in 2025, marking the second consecutive year and fifth time in program history that the Tide has collected at least 10 conference wins
Played a role in coaching Alabama’s all-time leading three-point shooter, Aaliyah Nye, during her three seasons at The Capstone who holds five different program records
Assisted in the development of two-time All-SEC honoree Sarah Ashlee Barker who will be known as one of the program’s most recognizable player
Played a prominent role in the development of both Brittany Davis (2023 WNBA Draft, 36th pick; Las Vegas Aces) and Jasmine Walker (2021 WNBA Draft, 7th pick; Las Angeles Sparks)
Under Curry’s watch, Jordan Lewis was named 2017 SEC Newcomer of the Year by the Associated Press, while also being named to the SEC All-Freshman team and winning SEC Freshman of the Week five times
Began his coaching career at Louisiana Tech before spending seven years at both Purdue (1999-2006) and Texas Tech (2006-2013) before coming to The Capstone in 2013
At Louisiana Tech coached under Hall of Famer Leon Barmore, and helped lead the team to a 30-3 record, reaching the 1999 NCAA Final Four
Helped lead Purdue to three Big Ten Tournament titles (2000, 03, 04) and two Big Ten regular season titles (2001, 02), as well as seven NCAA Tournament appearances, including the 2001 national championship game
