Manchester United manager Michael Carrick did not hold back in his post-match reaction after a dramatic 1–1 draw against West Ham at the London Stadium, where a late offside controversy involving Casemiro dominated the headlines.

West Ham had taken the lead through Tomáš Souček in the 50th minute, controlling much of the second half as United struggled to find rhythm. Just when it looked like the hosts would see the game out, Benjamin Šeško struck deep into stoppage time at 90+6 minutes to rescue a crucial point for the visitors.

But the real storm erupted moments before the equaliser.

Casemiro had the ball in the net earlier in the closing stages, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside after a VAR review. The decision left United’s bench furious, and Carrick’s emotions spilled over after the final whistle.

“Every week we talk about consistency, but when it’s Manchester United, suddenly the rules change,” Carrick said. “I’ve watched that back already. I don’t see how that’s offside. I really don’t.”

The United boss suggested the decision had a psychological effect on his players, forcing them to chase the game with added frustration in the dying minutes.

“We had a goal taken away for something that, in my opinion, is never given against other teams. It’s hard not to feel like there’s something against us when you see decisions like that.”

Despite Šeško’s late heroics earning a point, Carrick made it clear the controversy overshadowed the result.

“I’m proud of the fight to come back, but we shouldn’t have needed a miracle in the 96th minute. That goal should have stood. It changes the whole game.”

West Ham declined to comment on the decision, focusing instead on what felt like two points dropped after conceding so late.

The draw keeps Manchester United within touching distance in the table, but Carrick’s explosive comments are likely to draw attention from the league, as debate over VAR consistency once again takes centre stage in the Premier League.
