Florida Gators Make Stunning Comeback to Win NCAA Title, UConn Claims Women’s Championship
The Florida Gators made a thrilling comeback to secure a 65-63 victory over the Houston Cougars in the NCAA men’s basketball title game in San Antonio.
Trailing by 12 points in the second half, the Gators fought back with senior Will Richard leading the charge, contributing 18 points. The victory marked Florida’s first appearance in the title game since their 2007 championship win.
Houston appeared to be on track for their first-ever title, with a stellar defensive effort, including keeping Florida’s Walter Clayton Jr. scoreless in the first half.
However, Florida’s offense came alive in the second half, led by Alijah Martin’s crucial free throws in the final seconds, sealing the win. Florida head coach Todd Golden, at 39, became the youngest to win the NCAA title since 1983, reflecting the resilience and determination of his team.
In the women’s tournament, the UConn Huskies claimed their 12th NCAA title by defeating South Carolina 82-59, extending their record as the most successful program in women’s college basketball. Paige Bueckers, Sarah Strong, and Azzi Fudd played pivotal roles in the commanding win. The Huskies’ victory over the defending champions South Carolina capped a dominant run through the tournament.
