Former Alabama QB identifies position where Tide ‘desperately needs depth’

“Alabama desperately needs depth at tight end,” McElroy said on ESPN’s “Always College Football.” “I think Alabama is probably going to try to focus their attention on positions in which they might be able to get an immediate boost and might be able to get an immediate boost without having to spend a ridiculous amount of money, and that’s a tight end. If you look at their tight-end situation last year is quite good. CJ Dippre was very versatile, very solid, played the Y spot in the tight end position but could move, could play H. Had some position versatility and was not an elite pass catcher, but was a really well-rounded, rock solid tight end for the Tide. You also had an H-Back last year in Robbie Ouzts…Both those guys are now gone and Alabama has decent quality at the position, but I think if the right one jumps into the portal, Alabama will absolutely entertain those conversations.”
Alabama will add true freshman tight end, Kaleb Edwards this spring.
The Crimson Tide has not lost a scholarship player to the transfer portal as of early Friday evening. However, they could still be shopping in the portal.
