Ivan Toney update emerges as David Moyes eyes January move for new striker at Everton

Everton have been credited with an interest in former Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who is currently playing for Al-Ahli, as David Moyes looks to strengthen his attacking options.

Moyes is keen to bring in a new forward during the January transfer window, with Beto struggling to make a consistent impact since arriving on Merseyside and Thierno Barry still adjusting to the demands of Premier League football.

According to i news, Toney is thought to be considering a return to the Premier League in a bid to boost his chances of being selected for England’s squad at the 2026 World Cup. The 29-year-old earned his previous international call-ups while starring for Brentford, but he has since fallen out of contention under Thomas Tuchel.

Everton have been described as a suitable destination for Toney, with Moyes’ tactical approach potentially well suited to his strengths and capable of helping him rediscover his best form. However, sources have downplayed the likelihood of a move to Hill Dickinson Stadium in the near future, suggesting a deal is unlikely to materialise this January.

Despite that, Everton are still expected to be busy in the transfer market. Sitting 12th in the table, Moyes will be aiming for a top-half finish and may even harbour hopes of pushing for a Europa Conference League place, depending on recruitment.

Everton journalist Alan Myers believes the club’s owners will support Moyes in the upcoming window. While chief executive Angus Kinnear has sought to manage expectations, Myers feels there is still scope for several additions. He anticipates Everton will look to sign a striker, a full-back and a midfielder.

While forward links continue to dominate the headlines, Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo has also been mentioned as a player to watch. In addition, should Adam Aznou depart for Ajax, the Toffees could move into the market—possibly with a loan deal—to bring in a replacement.
