Katie Taylor blasts Amanda Serrano’s “boring” 12-round fights ahead of their third match

Katie Taylor has fired back at Amanda Serrano’s request for a change in fight format ahead of their third meeting, scheduled for July 11, which will be broadcast live on Netflix.

The two champions met in New York to promote the highly anticipated bout, which will mark their third encounter following Taylor’s two victories in the previous meetings.

Serrano, who has achieved much in the sport, raised the issue of their previous contracts and claimed that Taylor had agreed to fight 12 rounds of three minutes each. Taylor, however, rejected the notion and firmly reminded her opponent that she is in control of the negotiations.

“I have a long history of big fights against big names and a line of people queuing up to fight me for the payday,” Taylor responded, implying that Serrano should be grateful for the opportunity.

The Irish boxer also took a shot at Serrano’s previous fights, saying, “How many knockouts did you get in your 12 three-minute rounds? Zero. They end up being boring fights and it wasn’t a good advertisement for 12 three-minute rounds for women.”

Taylor and Serrano first fought in April 2022 at Madison Square Garden for the undisputed lightweight title, with Taylor winning by split decision. They faced off again in Texas in November 2023, where Taylor won by unanimous decision.

With the rivalry continuing, this third fight promises more fireworks, though tensions appear to be rising as both women exchange barbs in the lead-up to the match.
