Keyshawn Davis Set to Defend WBO Lightweight Title Against Edwin De Los Santos on June 7
Keyshawn Davis, the newly crowned WBO lightweight champion, is poised to make the first defence of his title on June 7 against former WBC title challenger Edwin De Los Santos. Davis captured the belt in commanding fashion on February 14, knocking out Denys Berinchyk in the fourth round to secure the victory.
Promoters Top Rank are finalizing the details of the fight, with De Los Santos agreeing to the purse and signing a bout agreement with his promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz. Top Rank Vice-President Carl Moretti confirmed that negotiations are ongoing but hopes to have the deal wrapped up soon.
Davis, who boasts an undefeated record of 13-0 with 9 KOs, expressed his eagerness to face anyone who is willing to step into the ring with him, adding, “Anyone who has got the balls to step in the ring to fight me!”
The lightweight division remains one of boxing’s most competitive, featuring elite fighters like Vasyl Lomachenko (IBF), Shakur Stevenson (WBC), and Gervonta Davis (WBA).
However, Lomachenko is currently recovering from an injury, and Stevenson has been ordered to face his mandatory challenger, William Zepeda. Gervonta Davis is expected to rematch Lamont Roach this summer after their controversial encounter.
If the fight with De Los Santos is finalized, Davis will return to the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia, where he previously stopped Gustavo Lemos in two rounds.
Known as ‘The Businessman,’ Davis enters the fight as a strong favourite, with De Los Santos coming off a 12-round decision loss to Stevenson in November 2023. However, De Los Santos has notable victories on his resume, including a stunning knockout win over Jose Valenzuela in 2022.
De Los Santos, with a record of 16-2 (14 KOs), is currently ranked No. 8 by the WBA and No. 13 by the WBO. His resilience and punching power make him a dangerous challenger, though Davis remains the favourite heading into the bout.
