Le Bris confirms sunderland star set for period of absence

Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris has confirmed that Habib Diarra will now link up with the Senegal national team ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
The midfielder made his long-awaited return to action in Sunderland’s 0–0 draw with Brighton, coming off the bench after being sidelined with a groin injury since September. Having regained fitness, Diarra was included in Senegal’s AFCON squad and will now depart Wearside to join up with his international teammates.
Le Bris explained that the club carefully managed Diarra’s rehabilitation and feels he is ready to take the next step. He said Sunderland were pleased with how the recovery process was handled and believes the midfielder’s involvement with Senegal will be gradual to ensure everything progresses smoothly. Le Bris added that Diarra is expected to return after the tournament fully fit and in strong condition.
Reflecting on the Brighton draw, Le Bris felt the result was ultimately deserved but admitted there was a sense of frustration within the squad. He noted that the dressing room atmosphere was one of disappointment at not taking all three points, something he views as a positive indicator of the team’s ambition and future mindset.
