Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey will not return to action this season after re-injuring his sprained right finger. The 23-year-old had been progressing toward a return but an MRI confirmed that the injury had worsened. The 76ers announced on Wednesday that Maxey is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Maxey, who was enjoying a breakout year, posted career highs with 26.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game this season. Last year, he was named a first-time All-Star and earned the title of the NBA’s Most Improved Player. However, Maxey has only played 52 games this season, having been sidelined since March 3.
Maxey’s injury is the latest setback for the 76ers, who have already been without MVP candidate Joel Embiid for significant portions of the season.
The team also dealt with injuries to newly acquired Paul George, who was shut down after only 41 games due to issues with his left groin and knee. With the team’s struggles and key players sidelined, the 76ers have had a difficult season, currently sitting outside the playoff picture.
